SAFE EFFECTIVE AFFORDABLE RETROFITS
The search continues for cost-effective retrofit strategies that can stand up to Alaska’s climate. One of the greatest
challenges in the north is designing energy efficient building envelopes that are also moisture-safe, because
insulation often affects the building’s ability to breathe. CCHRC is seeking funding to test five retrofit designs that are
both economical and practical, including walls with blown-in cellulose, foam, and mineral wool insulation.
